To work on a construction site, you first need to get white card training that will take you through all the necessary health and safety regulations.
The white card is a legally-required document that can allow you to work on construction sites across all states and territories in Australia, so even if you go through your white card course at home in Sydney, when you complete your construction induction training, you can effectively work in the entire country!
How Do You Apply for a White Card?
Anyone who wants to work on a construction site is legally required to hold a white card. It’s nationally recognised proof that you know how to protect yourself and others on a construction project.
To get your white card, you first need to complete the CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry white card course from a recognised RTO and go through the program.
Once you’ve completed the training, the RTO will provide the white card application papers and provide a statement of attainment that shows you went through the training. The statement is valid for 60 days, and you can use it to start your activity until the white card is issued.
What You Need to Know About Getting Your White Card
Today, you can actually get your white card online, or go through the traditional face-to-face course. However, note that online courses do not offer the same educational experience as face-to-face programs do, so be sure to check the program and make sure it is first recognised and accredited and goes through the entire necessary curricula.
But no matter which format you choose, it’s important to fully understand what getting your general construction card entails, to effectively prepare for the process.
Not everyone qualifies for the training course. In general, you need to meet the following requirements to enrol:
- Be at least 14 years old
- Have original ID documents that add up at least 100 points
- The ID must have a photo, show the date of birth, your signature, and your residential address
If you meet these criteria, you can enrol in a course and apply for your general construction induction card.
