Below are some frequently asked questions to assist you throughout your training journey. If you require any further assistance, please feel free to contact us.

Are you a registered training organisation?
Yes, Upskill Institute is a registered training organisation. RTO number 45708.

What is a USI and do I need a USI?
This is a new Government requirement. Your Unique Student Identifier (USI) will contain all your nationally recognised training records and results from January 1 2015 onwards. Applying for your own USI number is relatively easy to complete.

To apply for a USI is quick and easy. Go to www.usi.gov.au

Are you close to public transport?
We are a three-minute walk from Arncliffe train station and there are various bus routes within the close proximity.

Is there parking available?
There is plenty of free street parking available. Please ensure you check the street signs before you park.

Do you have kitchenette?
There is a great range of food options within the close proximity that you can visit during break times.

Does the venue have wheel chair access?
Yes, all our rooms can be accessed by a wheel chair.

What do I need to wear to class?
Your course may have specific requirements, please refer to your course information page.

Are you approved to deliver this course by SafeWork NSW?
Yes, Upskill Institute is approved by SafeWork NSW. Our SafeWork NSW approval number is RTO800520.

What is the minimum age to participate in White Card training?
A person must be at least 14 years of age to participate in the training.

For how long will my card be valid?
White Cards are valid for lifetime use and have no expiry date. However retraining workers who haven’t worked on a construction site for two or more years should update their skills and knowledge.

What ID do I need to bring with me to my White Card course?
You must provide original ID documents that add up to at least 100 points. Within these documents, you must be able to show your photo, date of birth (minimum age 14 years), signature and current residential address. If you do not bring the correct ID on the day of training, you will be refused entry to the course and it will cost you the full course fee to rebook.

Who needs a White Card?
A White Card (or general construction induction card) is required for workers who want to carry out construction work.

People who need a White Card could include:

  • site managers, supervisors, surveyors, labourers and tradespeople
  • people who access operational construction zones (unaccompanied or not directly supervised by an inducted person)
  • workers whose employment causes them to routinely enter operational construction zones.

 

The White Card becomes void if you haven’t carried out construction work for two consecutive years or more.

Is my White Card valid all over Australia?
The SafeWork NSW White card you receive is recognised throughout Australia.

How can I replace my White Card?
Your white card can be replaced online as long as your details have not changed. Please click on the below link to get started https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/replace-general-construction-induction-card-white-card

I want to change my White Card address or contact details?
If you know your licence number you can check and update your address or contact details by completing an update contact detailsrequest.

Alternatively, you can complete the licence enquiry form or change of details form.

I have not received my White Card yet. What can I do?
Please allow 30 days from the date of your training for your card to be issued. If you don’t receive your card by then, please contact SafeWork NSW a call on 13 10 50 or email licensing@safework.nsw.gov.au for assistance.

What is the minimum age to participate in Traffic Control training?
A person must be at least 17 years of age to participate in the training.

What ID do I need to bring with me to my Traffic Control course?

Does my SafeWork NSW Traffic Control card expire?
Your SafeWork NSW traffic control card does not expire, they are perpetual.

I have not received my Traffic Controller Card, what can I do?
Please allow approximately four weeks from the date you completed your practical assessment for SafeWork NSW to process your cards. If you still have not received your card, please call SafeWork NSW on 13 10 50 for assistance.

Does first aid training include CPR?
Yes, Provide First Aid does include CPR training. You can also choose to only complete HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation which, on completion, you will become proficient in providing CPR.

How often do you have to do first aid training?
It’s recommended that Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training is refreshed every twelve (12) months and Provide First Aid is completed every three (3) years. This is in line with the Safe Work Australia First Aid in the Workplace Code of Practice.

Is my first aid certificate valid all over Australia?
Our first aid courses are nationally recognised.

Is there any pre study prior to attending the classroom?
Yes, there is pre study required for these courses. Please refer to the relevant course information and you will be emailed the pre study materials once you have successfully enrolled.

What are the course eligibility requirements?

 

What Visa types are eligible?
You must be an Australian Permanent Resident or Citizen or hold a Visa that entitles you to full work rights in Australia (persons on Student or Holiday Visa are not permitted to undergo security training).

What is the enrolment process?
Complete the SLED pre-enrolment assessment (LLN Skills Testing), you must pass this to be accepted on a course. Bring 100 points of Identification to the induction – either original or original certified copies. Please refer to the 100 points of identification table.

  1. Bring an original or certified original copy of your HLTAID003 Provide First Aid certificate. If you do not have a first aid certificate, we can book you in for training.
  2. If successful with your SLED Pre – Enrolment Assessment, provide all documents (including USI), and read Fact Sheet 6 as well as the Student Handbook that contains the refund and fee policy, course conditions, and sign the acknowledgement form.
  3. Upon successful payment you will then receive your pre-course study material.
  4. You will be provided a date for the commencement of class room face-to-face training and assessment.

 

Is there any pre study for this course?
Yes, you will be required to complete pre study prior to attending classroom training and assessment.
